Texas Burger Tour: Burger Tex and Fuddruckers

Friday, 17 June, 2011

I do not intend to do combo reviews; however this situation is unique. I hope.

The Texas Burger Tour edition of the Hamburger Diaries shall not include either Dallas-based Fuddruckers or long-standing Austin hometown favorite Burger Tex. I encourage more tolerant persons to visit these establishments and submit their findings.

The fundamental sin is to provide provision and the expectation for the general public to dress their own Burgers.

Beyond my disdain for pour-your-own fountain drinks in a non-buffet restaurant, I have little patience with restaurants expecting that I should wish to provide, in my relative absence of knowledge of the craft, the finishing touches to the food which I am served. If I wanted to prepare food, I would ably do so at home.

As someone who is picky, I feel the opposite about this. I know I mentioned to you that Bill Terry & I bonded over how hard it was to get a plain hamburger at McDonald’s in the 1970s & ’80s.

While I am mostly better now, I still fucking hate mayo & ranch dressing, cheese, etc. This culture loves all of those things. I don’t belong here!
