Eyeglasses, spectacles and so forth.

Wednesday, 8 April, 2009

It’s been four years. My old Doc moved to posh new digs and has his own dispensary. This isn’t a good sign. Found a new Doc whose office is in a nearby mini mall. The mini mall isn’t promising, but she comes with excellent references and was not trained in Texas. Last time through, I had a bifocal option. I have since become expert with eyeglass calisthenics. This time it won’t be an option.

One may now buy first-quality eyeglasses over the internet. What has convinced me this may be a good idea is the Virtual Try-on systems at certain online grinders. You upload a picture, click some stuff and you get to see what the fitted frames look like on you. Nice, anti-exotic frames with standard single-vision lenses may be had for $50. I’m looking to get into a new set for around $100 with progressive lenses, but I know I will fall in love with something and spend much more. I always do.

I torment myself over frames. They have to look like Stan. They must not accentuate the flaws of my face, especially my jowls and the bags under my eyes. They have to compliment the contours of my face. They must not be conspicuous. I see people every single day with poorly selected glasses; especially when I am shopping for the next set. Your glasses are such a significant part of how you present yourself to the world, I cannot imagine exclusively following a particular fashion or having something which does not specifically flatter your humble mug.

However, I don’t know what to do now that I must move to a significantly larger frame. I have thrown together a video, and ask you to help me decide.
