Tax credit.

Saturday, 11 November, 2006

Now that the Dems more-or-less control the Congress, and have at long last worked out that the opposing party does not have the business of the people anywhere on the agenda, the first order of business should be a special tax credit. Specifically, allowing anyone who has purchased body armor or other protective gear for our troops overseas to take that investment directly off their federal income tax liability. Even and especially if that takes one’s tax liability into negative numbers.

The law should retroactively cover any purchase since 2001 and last until 2011, even if that takes one’s tax liability into negative numbers. First and foremost, a fairness principle is involved. More importantly, I want the GOP to stand up and tell us why this is such a terrible idea, and I want Bush to veto it. Even if Alfred goes for it, this creates a situation in which the Dems cannot lose.
