How I’ll be spending the day.

Sunday, 10 September, 2006

September 11, 2001, note the time. That’s Central time. The TV wasn’t yet on. I was about to go to bed after having been up for about 20 hours.

I had been journaling for about two months and still didn’t know what I was going to do with it. I have memories … Ginger pulling me from the web of televison, radio, the internet was all but unavailable … The following afternoon when Peter Jennings cried on the air and and in so doing finally gave me, and several others I’m certain, permission to follow his lead.

I am thinking of the world back then, before the ipod, before broadband for most people on this continent, IBM was pushing this weird thing called Linux, a site called “myspace.com” was folding after realizing that people were unwilling to upload files to a remote secure directory at 53K up, even for only $29.95 per month …

I would like your observations about the time, the “pre-Nineleven world”, but not the political stuff. Sorry that I can only think about what happens through this box, but that was easy to document. I tried to think that this time the republicans would keep the economy going, after all most of them were just off the bus from Austin.

I knew next to nothing about Islam, despite it being the adopted faith of one of my heroes.

Your turn, everybody.
