At long, long last I finally have an answer to exactly what the deal is with the billboard that faces Oltorf Ave. on Lamar. It reads “Weekday Mornings with Jungle Julia” and features photos of a woman in a hockey jersey and sometimes quad skates. However, the billboard does not indicate where you could hear Jungle Julia.

Jungle Julia is the object of obsession of the main character in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, his half of Grind House. According to IMDB, Sydney Tamiia Poitier [daughter] is portraying Jungle Julia, but she is not the woman whose photos are on the billboard.

It should be mentioned that the name Jungle Julia is a contentious reference to The Electric Company.

Furthermore, the big man, Harry Knowles has posted pictures of the titular vehicle of Death Proof. It is a modestly modified version of my favorite American car ever. I’ve owned two of them. To make a good one you have to subframe a whole other front suspension, which was not done to my personal examples. This car should not have a hood ornament. Part of the object of this school of GM design was to get away from the style model that dictated hood ornaments and conspicuous and useless chrome. It just fucks with the lines too much.
