Why Hollywood Video stores appear to have a relationship with H-E-B.

Tuesday, 25 July, 2006

In 1987, to access the growing market for home video rentals H. E. Butt Company established H-E-B Video Central as stand-alone retail outlets utilizing vacant space in their owned-and-operated retail centers, which feature an H-E-B Supermarket as an anchor. As the overall economy improved and the market for home video continued to grow, Video Central grew but proved problematic as it was an extreme diversification from Butt’s core business, and the company needed capital to establish other grocery-oriented operations. Video Central was sold to Hollywood Entertainment in 1993 in order to supplement their presence in the Austin, Corpus Christi and San Antonio markets.

At least two stand-alone H-E-B Video Central shops were built, one is in McAllen and operating as a Hollywood today.
